Noodle House Ken

This is a must-go ramen place.

Always go there if I had strong desire for authentic ramen. The boss is Japanese, and I heard that he settled down in Singapore around a decade ago. You can see his picture on the menu.

The essentials to go with your ramen...

This place is famous for their char siew & stewed-boiled egg ramen. The ramen is cooked in a just nice texture rested in rich broth with no MSG. With this combination, it can even chase away my cold if I had one. I always finished the soup till the last drop! =)
They used to serve very good Katsu Curry rice, it’s a waste that they discontinued it 2 years back…

Take note of the yolk, it should be wet..

Another must have is their Gyoza ($5) which served piping hot, skin was crisp evenly on one side and very, very, very thin. However, I felt that it’s a bit bland but it goes well with the vinegar.

Overall, I feel that the atmosphere is cosy (as usual) and it lets you have that feel of old style ramen shops along the street of Japan. Price for a bowl of ramen is about $10-$12. People will tend to compare Ken Noodle with Marutama (Centr@l), I still prefer Ken Noodle as the broth is not that oily and price are more affordable.

阿秋甜品 Ah Chew Desserts

Few years ago, my buddy GY brought me to this small shop for desserts in one hot humid afternoon. I would say that the desserts have generally improve over the years. From a small shop space that they have until today, they have bought over the shop space besides them. Business is still as good and i would say much busier.

Look at the crowd on sat night!!

Used to have the long Q'ing system but now the waiting time is quite fast and they do deliver all the desserts to customers now. They should give me a VIP card as i have brought numerous friends to eat their desserts. So this time round i decide to intro their desserts on my blog.

The pricing is rather affordable and if you really wanna taste desserts with the real ingredients (真材食料) , this is the place to go.

They are famous for their Mango Sago with Pomelo, 杨枝甘露 ($3.80) and Ice Red Bean in HongKong style, 港式红豆冰. I was rather "heaty" these few days, so i order their 龟零膏($3.80).

Look @ the pomelo and the cube-sized mango, YUMMY!

Although i like the taste of the manago sago, but somehow thinking that chilled version of it would be better than the current version of adding in crushed ice.

龟零膏
It might look nothing fantastic, but the feeling is refreshing in your mouth and its texture is very smooth. Taste best with unlimted supply of honey by the shop. Haaa...

Didn't manage to get any pic for the Iced Red Bean in HK style, cause don't have any more space in my stomach for it =)

Shin Kushiya (Suntec Galleria)

It has been a long time since Wei and I go out for our occasionally lavish and sumptuous meal together. Among our kakis, we are the only 2 that keen to have this kinda of lifestyle and of course sometimes blame it on our stressful mind.

This time I suggest we go to Shin Kushiya at the new Suntec Galleria.

For timing like 7pm, there weren’t many diners. There are only 3 or 4 tables full, mostly couples. The cool and dark interior is suitable for cozy dinner for couples or just a laidback one with the girlfriends.

From where I sit, I faced directly to the see-through grilling counter with chef grilling our orders. The menu is filled with colorful pictures to capture clients’ curiosity on the taste of the food. But however, the description of each dish is not reading friendly under the dim light.

Shin is distinctive for their grilled skewers, Kushiyaki in Japanese. The restaurant uses Bincho charcoal (white charcoal) for their grill and it claims that any grilled food would turn out to be crispy on the outside and yet juicy on the inside.

I didn’t know that on every Wednesday nite, all skewers have 30% off the menu price. Of course we order a few to try; the Gyu Kambi (prime beef), enoki mushrooms wrapped with thin beef slices, chicken yakitori, ika and salmon belly with grated daikon and spring onion on top.

From left; Chicken Yakitori, 2 sticks of Enoki mushrooms wrapping in beef slices

The average price for the skewers is around $3. Overall, I would say that the Gyu Kambi really taste good with the natural flavor and the tenderness of it. But I have taste better version of enoki with beef slices and chicken yakitori at other places, so this one here did not amaze me.

We also order an appetizer; vege and soft shell crab wrapped in rich paper (I forget the name of it and it reminds me of the Vietnamese food).

A Sashimi Moriwase for 2 was ordered as well; a total of 5 variety of sashimi @ $22.80.

We not in the mood for any sushi or main dish like rice or noodles (Donburi or Menrui ) last nite but I guess I might go back and try one more time. This time round can look out for their special promotion on different nite, like the ladies nite whereby sake is 1-1. And I think Wei interested in this too??? Haaaa

OldTown White Coffee

Traditionally, Malaysian style "black" coffee roast (also known as Hainanese coffee; not to be confused with the serving style of coffee without milk) is produced by roasting the beans with sugar and margarine. "White" coffee, on the other hand, is produced with only margarine and without any sugar, resulting in a roast that is less dark, hence the term "white" coffee.

The name "white coffee" is associated with Ipoh, due to it originating from Ipoh (in particular, its Old Town). Exceedingly popular in Ipoh, "white" coffee is slowly but steadily gaining a following in other regions of Malaysia and abroad.

I have gone to OldTown couple of times and have tried most of its signature food. As the name suggests, it is famous for their drinks under their series of Origin White Coffee. My fave is its OldTown White Milk Tea and OldTown Hazelnut White Coffee. Both cost $2, worth it or not, you gonna try.

White Milk Tea

I have come across reviews that the outlet in East Coast sucks in terms of its environment and food. However, I felt that this outlet in Bt. Timah actually quite cosy and it’s a good place to laze around on weekend. Besides drinks, it has variety of food such as Rendang chicken, Nasi Lemak and bread toast.

The interior of the OldTown

My pick would be the Rendang Chicken, $7.90 (a must to try!) and Prawn Mee, $5.90 (you would die for the soup!). BUT remember don’t ever try its toast bread, bad encounter for me and nothing fantastic.

My short retreat... Part 3

A trip to Bintan was planned to celebrate 30th birthday of my gal friends.
Since I am the only one whom is not 30 yet =) I have been nominated to organize for this trip; from rackie the different agencies till sourcing for the resorts in Bintan, and also to decide on the number of days…

Mayang Sari Beach Resort

The beach... the breeze..

Our first meal was at the Spice restaurant located at the lobby of resort. The restaurant serves Indonesian and Indian cuisine. To our surprise, the food is good.

My choice; Ayam Betutu

The tasty fish curry.

You will never find this taste in Singapore, right taste and tender.

Not knowing that the island is still celebrating Halloween, we went to the Beach Club.

Look at the deco there, innovative and daring.
Happy Halloween!
